Stephen Zhu, known mononymously as Zhu, is an American singer and music producer who’s been gracing us with his since 2014. His emergence was surrounded by a cloud of mystery as little was known about him. Zhu’s first release was an unattributed Outkast remix medley, released on Soundcloud. He went on to release “Faded” later in 2014, which was an undeniable hit. His distinctive vocals and hypnotic production also earned him a deal with Columbia Records and a show at the EDM festival Hard Day for the Dead. The trick to his success? Maintaining some level of anonymity. As it turns out “letting the music speak for itself” allowed Zhu to build online hype and a loyal fan base.
Since then, Zhu has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the Electronic genre. This includes Skrillex, Aluna George, Gallant, Daniel Johns, Ekali, and more. In 2016, Zhu released the single “In the Morning” before finally launching his debut album “Generationwhy” later that year. The lead single, named after the album, topped the U.S. Dance chart and peaked just outside the Billboard 200’s Top 100. Zhu’s success has carried over across the ensuing years and fans can’t wait to see what more he has in store. Check out Zhu’s socials to keep up with the artist’s lucrative career.
