Diplo, born Thomas Wesley Pent, is an American DJ, songwriter, and record producer. His talent speaks for itself and year after year he continues to grace us with international hits. It’s almost hard to imagine that he began his career as a small-time DJ at Rollins College’s radio station. But that was back in 1997. Nevertheless, it didn’t take him long to find his place in the music industry. By 2003, Diplo had already gained recognition having thrown several influential parties under the Hooked on Hollertronix moniker. He cemented his place in the music industry with his debut album Florida, a downtempo piece focusing on melody and instrumentals.

Diplo’s career only took off from here. He has collaborated with several artists. This includes British musician M.I.A., who played a huge role in exposing him during his early years. Later, Diplo teamed up with DJ Switch to create the Jamaican dancehall project, Major Lazer. His collaborative spirit would also give birth to the electronic super duo Jack U, featuring himself and DJ Skrillex. A jack of all trades and a true cultural powerhouse, Diplo shows us what you can do with some determination and hard work. He is a three-time Grammy Award winner and continues to support a range of projects. Diplo is certainly the 21st-century artist to watch out for.
